Day 1 June 16 - Depart the US

Day 2 June 17 - Arrival in the Holy Land

Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv in the morning of June 17. We will meet our bus driver and head out to visit the Herodian city of Caesarea Maritima, where Paul was imprisoned for several years. We will have lunch at the Holy Land Restaurant before we travel to Nazareth to visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, followed by a visit to Sepphoris. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 3 June 18 - Northern Israel

Visit Tel Dan, the northernmost sanctuary in Ancient Israel. Head to Caesarea Phillipi, the place of Peter’s great confession, “Thou art the Christ.” After lunch at Birkat Ram, visit the overview of the UN peacekeeping force Kuneitra. End the day at the amazing Magdala to visit the ancient synagogue with the remarkable Torah stone. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 4 June 19 - Galilee

Take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee from Tiberias to Ginnosar, where we will see the famous Jesus Boat. Visit the Mount of Beatitudes commemorating the Sermon on the Mount. Travel to Bethsaida, where Jesus called the first disciples. Lunch at the Heritage Restaurant. After lunch, visit Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry. End the day at Taghba and the Primacy of Peter (John 21) associated with Jesus’ multiplication of loaves and fish. Overnight in Tiberias.

Day 5 June 20 - Central Highlands

We will start the day at Meggido, a great city that controlled all travel and transport through the Jezreel Valley for thousands of years. We’ll drive to Samaria and have lunch in Sabaste, the site of a great Herodian city. There we will eat a delicious traditional Arabic lunch and visit a unique shop for antiquities. Next, we will explore the Greek Orthodox church, where we will drink from Jacob’s Well, where Jesus spoke with the Samaritan woman (John 4). Finish the day by traveling to our Bethlehem hotel. Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 6 June 21 - Bethlehem

Start the day at Herodion, the fortress and final resting place of Herod. Then we will go to Bethlehem Bible College for a conversation with Dr. Bishara Awad (DWU alum, class of 1963, and founder of Bethlehem Bible College) or another BBC representative. We will eat lunch at the college and spend time in their gift shop. Then, we’ll visit Church of the Nativity which is the oldest church in the world. Then, we’ll visit the Olive Wood Factory. That evening, we’ll have dinner with various local Palestinian families (optional). Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 7 June 22 - Southern Israel

In the morning, we will visit St. George’s monastery in Wadi Qelt. Those with some physical stamina can hike to the ancient city of Jericho a few miles away. We will have lunch at Al Rawda Restaurant. Then, we’ll go to Qumran, the location of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Then we’ll go for a swim in the Dead Sea at Kalia beach and go back to Bethlehem for dinner. Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 8 June 23 - Jerusalem

Start the day at the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Walk from Jaffa Gate to Zion Gate and visit the Upper Room and the traditional Tomb of David. Have lunch at the quaint Armenian Restaurant. Go up to the Mount of Olives for a commanding view of the Golden City. Walk Palm Sunday Road from Bethphage to Gethsemane. Visit Dominus Flevit, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Church of All Nations. After an outstanding dinner at the Olive Tree Hotel, spend a delightful evening shopping on Ben Yehudah Street. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 9 June 24 - Jerusalem

We will visit the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, the Teaching Steps, the Davidson Center, and the City of David. Walk through Hezekiah’s Tunnel ending in the Pool of Siloam. Have lunch on your own in the Jewish Quarter and a spectacular dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 10 June 25 - Jerusalem & Tel Aviv

In the morning, we’ll go through the Western Wall Tunnel and explore the recently uncovered western wall of the second Jerusalem temple. After lunch, we’ll drive to Jaffa-Tel Aviv to tour and shop in the old city of Yafo (biblical Joppa) associated with the prophet Jonah. Visit the site where Peter may have had his vision of eating unclean animals (Acts 10). You will have the option of swimming at the beautiful Tel-Aviv beaches. We’ll have dinner in one of the many colorful restaurants before we head to the airport for our evening flight home.

Day 11 June 26 - Return to the USA or Enjoy the Petra Extension

June 26 - Mount Nebo & Madaba
Visit Mount Nebo where Moses died. Visit Madaba Church to see the oldest map of the Holy Land in the world. Travel down the old King’s Highway, stopping at Karnak Castle (a crusader fort) and visit the fortress of Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded according to Josephus. Overnight at Petra.

June 27 - Petra
Early in the morning, journey to the famous rock city of Petra, which is literally cut into the cliffsides. Overnight at Petra again in the mountains of ancient Edom.

June 28 - Transfer to Airport
Transport to the airport in Tel-Aviv for an evening flight home.

June 29 - Return to the USA
Arrive home.
