Day 1 Monday, May 16
Depart US for overnight flight.
Day 2 Tuesday, May 17: Arrive in Israel
Arrive in Tel Aviv and transfer to your hotel in Netanya for overnight.
Day 3 Wednesday, May 18: Caesarea Maritime, Megiddo
Visit Caesarea Maritime, Roman imperial city built by King Herod the Great and residence of Pontius Pilate, Cornelius, the centurion (Acts 10), Herod Agrippa, who killed James (Acts 12), and Festus (Acts 25). View the ancient harbor, theatre, & Roman aqueducts. Visit Megiddo, the battleground of history in the Jezreel Valley (1 Kings 9:15, 2 Kings 23:29; Rev 15:12), “Armageddon” with its 25+ layers of civilization. Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 4 Thursday, May 19: Tel Dan, Caesarea Philippi/Banyas
Tel Dan Nature Preserve, walk along the largest of the four springs that form the Jordan River. Examine the archaeological ruins of this Old Testament city of the tribe of Dan. View an ancient Canaanite gate and the high place where King Jeroboam set up worship of a golden calf (1 Kings 12:28-29). Visit Caesarea Philippi (Banyas), Herod Phillip’s capital, site of Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Christ (Matt 16:13), ancient shrine of the god Pan, in the Golan Heights. Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 5 Friday, May 20: Magdala, Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum, Tabgha, Ginosar
Begin the day at Magdala, hometown of Mary Magdalene. Visit the beautiful Mount of Beatitudes chapel, Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5-7). Tour Capernaum with Peter’s house and the synagogue (Mt 4:13), center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry. Enjoy the Church of the Multiplication and the Primacy of Peter at Tabgha (Heptapagon). View the first-century fishing boat like the ones in Peter’s fishing fleet on display at Kibbutz Ginosar (New Testament Ginnesaret). Overnight in Tiberias.
Day 6 Saturday, May 21: Sepphoris, Nazareth
Visit Sepphoris (Tsippori), Herod Antipas’ capital of Galilee & center of Jewish life following the Roman War. See Synagogue with mosaic floor, Roman-era baths with mosaics, Crusader-era tower. Travel to Nazareth where you’ll visit the Church of Annunciation, home of the Holy Family. Enjoy Nazareth Village depicting daily life in Galilee at the time of Jesus. Overnight in Bethlehem.
Day 7 Sunday, May 22: Morning Worship, Hebron
Sunday service at Christmas Lutheran Church, Bethlehem (10:30 am). Travel to Hebron where you will visit the Tombs of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs (Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, Leah [see Genesis 23]), in the vicinity of Mamre where God appeared to Abraham (Gen 18) a site holy to both Muslims and Jews. Tour Mosque of Ibrahim and synagogue. Overnight in Bethlehem.
Day 8 Monday, May 23: Bethlehem
Visit the Church of the Nativity, built over the birthplace of Jesus and the oldest church in the Holy Land. Stop at an Olive Wood factory. Walk the Shepherds’ field, a remembrance of the angels’ announcement to shepherds of the Christ child’s birth. Hike to top of Herodium, King Herod’s fortress and mausoleum. Overnight in Bethlehem.

Day 9 Tuesday May 24: Masada, Qumran, Affirmation Baptisms
Depart early for a visit to Masada, King Herod’s “desert fortress” and the last Zealot stronghold against Rome in 70 AD. Walk the excavations of the Essene community of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were penned. Stop at Kasr El Yehud for affirmation Baptisms in the Jordan River. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 10 Wednesday, May 25: Augusta Victoria Hospital Mt of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane, Church of Holy Sepulcher, Mt. Zion
Visit Lutheran World Federation’s Augusta Victoria Hospital, meet with ELCA Global Mission, Young Adults in Global Ministries, Walk the Mount of Olives’ Palm Sunday Road, visit the Garden of Gethsemane. Walk through the Old City on the Via Dolorosa, including Herodian pavement, to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built over Golgotha and the Tomb of Christ. Visit Redeemer Lutheran Church. Time permitting, stop on Mt. Zion for a visit to the Upper room, the spot commemorated as the place where Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 11 Thursday May 26: Temple Mount, Kotel, Davidson Center, City of David
Today will begin early on the Temple Mount where Solomon had built the first temple (1Kings 6‐8), where the Second temple stood (Haggai 1:8). See the ruins of the temple of Herod, destroyed by the Romans (Luke 21:6). View of the Dome of the Rock and El Aksa Mosque. Visit the Western Wall or Kotel, the foundation wall of the Second Temple destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. Visit the Davidson Center and Southern Steps excavations, the steps by which Jesus entered the Temple. After lunch in the Old City, visit the City of David where David’s palace stood. See the Gihon spring and walk Hezekiah’s Tunnel or the Jebusite dry tunnel to the Pool of Siloam. Visit Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Evening: Hear from Bereaved Families/ Parents Circle Group.
Day 12 Friday, May 27
Visit the Israel Museum (with Model of Herodian Jerusalem during Second Temple period). Check out of rooms by mid-day, enjoy the balance of your day in Jerusalem, and in the evening after dinner transfer to Ben Gurion airport for return flight.
