Dr. van Rensburg was born in Cape Town, South Africa and ordained in the Methodist Church of South Africa. He received a scholarship from the World Council of Churches and lived and studied at the Ecumenical Institute at Chateau Bossey near Geneva , Switzerland, for 10 months.
Lee and his wife, Bonnie, then came to the United States, and Lee studied at Drew University, Madison, NJ receiving both the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Ministry degrees. His doctoral work focused on the role and function of humor in a religious community with a special focus on Jesus’ use of humor in his teachings and ministry.
He served several churches in the Greater New Jersey United Methodist Annual Conference and was the Senior Pastor at Morrow Memorial UMC, Maplewood, NJ for eight years before retiring in 2007.
Lee has been hosting groups to Israel with Educational Opportunities for 25 years and has run up a plethora of trips. He currently serves with EO as a Director of Travel Ministry and is on the Tiberius, Israel, Hospitality Staff.
He is often called upon for interim ministry. He and his wife have three grown children and five grandchildren and reside in the Pocono’s PA. He enjoys fishing for Blues, golf, tennis, racquet ball and has a private pilots licensee for his replica of a Piper J3-Cub, a WW11 fabric covered , high winged tail wheel ‘plane.
