Dr. Robert Bryant

Dr. Robert A. Bryant is the Kristen Herrington Professor of Bible and Director of the Cornelson Institute of Christian Practice and Vocation at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. He earned his B.S. at Virginia Tech and received his M.Div. and Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Union Presbyterian Seminary. In 1998, he joined PC’s Department of Religion and Philosophy where he teaches courses in Old and New Testament as well as upper-level bible courses and biblical Greek. He also teaches for the college’s environmental studies program. In addition to serving as department chair, he has been a Visiting Scholar for Duke University, received PC’s Faculty Scholar Award and its Professor of the Year Award, and has twice received a German Academic Exchange Fellowship to teach as a Visiting Professor of Religion at the University of Education in Karlsruhe, Germany. He is the author of The Risen Crucified Christ in Galatians, The Gospel of Matthew: God With Us, First Corinthians: One in Christ, and he has written numerous articles and lectured extensively. His work in rhetorical studies is included in the Handbook of Biblical Criticism. An ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dr. Bryant has served churches as Pastor and Supply Pastor in the Synods of the South Atlantic and the Mid-Atlantic. He enjoys serving lay schools of theology and has contributed to the development of Christian Education curricula. He has been active with JCBS since 2001.
